The latest offering from Apple has the iPhone updated to a faster and a bit leaner design. What are the latest updates to the iPhone ? Check it out here in this review article on the new iPhone, the 3GS.

You may not have noticed it but the new iPhone 3GS weighs just a bit less than the older iPhones. This is a big strange since the newer 3GS is also larger than its predecessor. But the basic dimensions are hardly a difference that can be noticed. The newer model iPhone is just a millimeter thicker than the earlier models. The screen has more performance with the 3G S, but the size has not changed. The latest model has a screen that reveals an impressive 16.7 million colors. This makes the screen much more life-like and videos and photos are rendered more naturally.

Apple iPhone 3Gs

One setback for the iPhone 3G S with its new abilities is that the battery is drained faster than the older models. The 600 Megahertz processor is hungry for power and drains the battery faster than usual. The old iPhone had a talktime of eight hours, the newer model can handle just five hours of talk time. This may mean you will need to carry an extra battery with you. If this is unacceptable there are extended life batteries available that will help with the short talk time. 600 Megahertz is becoming a normal speed for mobile devices these days so battery technology will need to catch up soon.

This new iPhone has twice the memory of the older model with 32 Gigabytes available to use. The internal memory is available for you to use for storage and comes in handy for photos and music. The iPhone 3G S can handle many more networks than the past models. The GSM modes include 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 networks. In addition it can also handle WCDMA 850, 1900 and 2100 networks. The older model could only handle the GSM modes.

There is no doubt you are going to enjoy this new iPhone 3GS. With twice as much memory as before you may never fill it up. The popularity of this phone has not died down since it was introduced back in 2007 by Apple. Take a look at this new iPhone as it has the same popular operating system and features, but this time around it can do more than ever.

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that mobile phones served only two functions: phoning and texting. A mobile phone was a mere convenience that allowed you to talk on the move, but served little other purpose. How times have changed. Now mobile phones are an intricate part of our lives; some people cannot live without them, they feel naked going out with their mobile in their pocket and we use them for so much more than communicating on the move.

HD in Mobile Phone

Just about every mobile phone these days comes equipped with a camera, Bluetooth, mp3 player and so much more. They have evolved beyond what they were originally intended for and now they are used for an assortment of activity – taking pictures, listening to music, keeping a record of your appointments and streaming video to mention just a few. It is this last point that we will focus on because as mobile technology has developed to the stage where we now are able to watch videos on your mobile phones, isn’t mobile high-definition the next logical step?

High Definition is fast becoming the norm for all television or movie viewing and Apple in particular have been quick to capitalize on this desire for HD by introducing HD TV shows on their itunes store. The Iphone Blog predicts a 802.11n streaming, 32GB iPhone HD, running firmware 3.0 to be released this year; however is HD on a mobile phone practical, functional or even necessary?

Under 20% of mobile phones users say that they would want to watch a TV show or a movie on their mobile phone. Even though screens are getting bigger the appeal of watching a new Hollywood blockbuster on your mobile, even with HD, seems to be almost non-existent. Add into this the fact that HD files are inextricably large in capacity then you would struggle to fit a full length movie onto most phones on the market at the minute. Battery life, loading time, transfer time and the fact that you are still going to be watching it on a small screen are all factors that should condemn HD mobiles back to the drawing board.

However, if the 21st century has taught us anything thus far it is that if someone wants to build something, they will. HD mobile technology will be no exception. Even though the market might be small it is guaranteed that we will see a mobile phone capable of displaying full HD films in the near future. While this may appeal to some I think the majority of us will stick to our HD ready TV’s and the cinema is we want to see anything in High Definition.

Over 1 billion mobile phones are sold every year worldwide. It is hard now to picture life without our cell phones and almost near impossible to know someone who does doesn’t possess one; whether you are 8, 18 or 80 the chances are you have a mobile phone. However, they have gone far beyond the original purpose and instead have become a mobile multimedia device that has revolutionized the way we think, work and interact. We will look into a new craze for the purpose of this article – iphone applications and how they have changed the way we use our phones.

iPhone Applications

Over 50,000 applications are available for the iphone and they range from the technologically brilliant to the convenient to just plain fun.

Take Shazam for instance. We’ve all heard a song that we like but never caught the name or artist. The tune and lyrics swirl around in our head as we desperately try to think of the musician but to no avail. With this app you can be sure this will not happen again. Shazam works by holding your iphone up so it can record a snippet of the track then, in seconds, Shazam provides you with the artist and song title.

Or what about Pocket First Aid & CPR Guide? This application can really help to save someone’s life. It provides detailed and current medical information from the American Heart Association that could be critical in a medical emergency. In addition it provides first aid videos too.

Just want the iphone for fun? You can get a virtual pint that empties as you title your iphone. Silly maybe but definitely humorous.

These are just 3 very small examples of the power of the iphone. However it begs a more extensive and vast question: where is mobile technology headed? These three applications show the enormous power that a mobile phone can produce, no longer is it just confined to calling people it is used for a vast array of tasks, whether they be fun, medical or convenient. Games, where you can be pitted against another player anywhere in the world, are some of the most popular applications. The days of beating your high score in snake are truly over.

Mobile Phone technology is advancing at an extraordinarily fast rate. The big question as we move into the second decade of this century will be: can the consumer keep up?

Two magnificent phones from top-notch companies, Storm by Blackberry and iPhone 3G by Apple have been the most talked about issue for its users. The comparison between these two phones will enable the people to figure out which phone best suits their requirement. The Storm is the first touch screen phone introduced by BlackBerry. In terms of design it is similar to the iPhone 3G by Apple. Though it lacks the sleekness of the phone by Apple and is 0.14 inches thicker and 22 grams heavier. Comparing the screen of the Storm with the iPhone 3G, it can be said that the screen of the Storm is 0.3 inches smaller than the iPhone. Nonetheless, the resolution of Storm is 460×360 pixels, which is higher than the resolution of iPhone 3G, which are 320 x 480 pixels. So, in this respect, the manufacturers of Blackberry Storm receive thumbs up.

Apple iPhone 3G

Coming down to the Input method, it can be said that with the multi-touch interface of iPhone 3G receiving so much adulation from the users, touch has set a base for new smartphones being introduced. Storm just like iPhone does not possess any slide-out keyboard, and makes use of the screen itself for input. In fact, the developers of Storm brings into focus that this touch technology is way different in comparison to those used by the other smartphones. This technology has been rightly called as Clickable Screen. This suggests that when the key is pressed on the screen by the user, they will feel the press as well as release of the keys. But in this case the multi-touch interface of iPhone is also creating waves.

Another aspect on which the iPhone and Storm is compared is Multimedia. RIM phones are not very functional in the Multimedia support as they mainly aim at the business users. The idea with which Storm is mainly to entice casual users as it supports basic features such as music playback as well as video playback. The audio playback range included by the phone is MP3, WMA among others and MPEG4, WMV and many more among the video formats. Through BlackBerry Media Sync, the user can sync iTunes. But comparing it with iPhone 3G, it is found that it is the greatest iPod created by Apple ever. The whole experience of listening music is sensitizing. With Apple updating it with features such as Genius Playlist, multimedia support of iPhone is indomitable. With all this in store for you, iPhone 3G beats Storm easily.

BlackBerry Storm

Blackberry’s Storm gives Apple’s iPhone a tough time as far as the camera and video recording is concerned. No updates have been done by Apple in the iPhone’s camera, having 2 megapixel cameras whereas Storm supports a 3.2 megapixel camera comprising the ability to record videos. The camera of Storm also has flash as well as auto focus which makes it more credible.

Gauging iPhone as well as Storm Enterprise features it can be seen that RIM leads the market in enterprise wireless equipments. The phenomenon continues with Storms also. The enterprise feature supported by Storm is excellent as far as varied measures of security are concerned. iPhone as well as Storm support exceptional features and both are good in their own right. They both have different targets in the market place and have different positions too.

Yes, the 3Gs. Does that little ‘s’ tagged on the end make that big of a difference? You better believe it! This nifty new toy, released by Apple on June 19th, features twice the speed of the traditional iPhone 3G. Generally when we see a technology update it is only slightly faster. Companies that produce processors, GPU’s, and the like all tend to release a ‘new and improved’ product, charge twice what the model below costs, and gain very little in any noticeable performance. Apple should be commended on this upgrade as it is one of few out there that is truly worth it.

Apple iPhone 3Gs

This phone offers more than just a power update. Countless add-ons have been installed such as the new 3.0 megapixel camera that you may take VIDEO with! Finally, Apple, finally! One of the biggest gripes with previous versions was the lack of video support. How could they leave this out? I really don’t know. Phones released years and years ago had this support, alas, at least you may have it now. Seemingly in order to ‘make amends’ for leaving out such a standard feature, Apple has put video editing software directly into the iPhone’s software. This is truly phenomenal. I can think of no other phone that offers such an incredible program in such a small device.

Also added are simpler, yet unbelievably useful features such as copy and paste. While those of you reading this on your computer are taking it for granted, try surfing a mobile web and send a friend a link. You will find yourself in headache galore unless it is the root of the site. Now you can just drag, select, and paste anywhere you like!
